Devin ONeill , et all: When you wrote admirable about Miley Cryus, I somewhat got it although Im still not a fan and I read your missive in all its thoughtful totality. I thought your writing far surpassed Mileys best efforts. But when you recently wrote about starting to like Taylor Swift, I thought -uh uh -no no-Im not going there; Im not even going to read this! Then THIS. I got HIT by a HIT. A friend showed me her iPhone video, rocking out while driving, to Swifts latest hit (which I had absolutely no knowledge of) on the radio. It was so infectious, so pure, so totally right. I had to play it again... and again...and again. I know you have had some bad experiences with organized religion and you are exploring other options-you are a seeker. I want to encourage you to see this aspect of Jesus; this shake it off aspect. Theres one part of the song where its almost as though Swift is preaching and, for me, at least, this is the best of sermons: (at 2:19) even though its all of ten seconds long, It changed my thinking, my paradigm. It armed me for the daily battles of life. It instructed me in how to live. And it did it in the most un-asssuming of ways-not in some heavy handed, dark uber-spiritual and elitist way but in the same way that Jesus did- with just sheer passion, truth and life.
