Unfortunately, Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s sons, had not learned this important lesson when they offered unholy fire before the Lord. Because they did not follow the Lord’s commands and offered their own incense before God, fire blazed out and consumed them. This scene may seem harsh to many of us today, but it reflects the seriousness of the matter. The Lord is a holy God, and we dare not enter his worship flippantly or carelessly, for it is only by his infinite grace that we are allowed to come before him. Prayer: MOST HOLY GOD, we bow before you in humblest recognition of your holiness. We have nothing to offer you but repentant hearts, yet you receive our worship by the grace of your own Son, who gave his life for us. Open our eyes that we may catch a glimpse of your true glory, and cleanse our hearts that we may reflect your holy character. We ask this by the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen.
