Dialect is in dialog is absolutely fine and may even be necessary - TopicsExpress

Dialect is in dialog is absolutely fine and may even be necessary in first person narration when the voice of the narrator has a distinct speech pattern. I have read efforts by writers who tell stories from the perspective of an uneducated protagonist, but they spew scholarly rants. That will always ring false. The trick is to be very careful: vary dialect from character to character (in dialog). If you can, this adds unique voice to each and gives individualism to your narrative voice. But if told from any variation of third person perspective, the narrative voice rarely, if ever, should be in dialect.
