Diane Ravitch recommends 3 incumbents (Annie Roof, Samantha Adair-White, And Dr. Michael Brown) for the IPS School Board race. Three incumbents on the Indianapolis school board have collectively raised about $6,000. Their opponents have raised over $100,000 from corporate reformers who want to bring more charters to the district. Follow the money. The challengers are heavily funded by groups like anti-teacher, anti-union, pro-privatization Stand for Children, the Chamber of Commerce, and big contributors from across the nation. Clearly, the corporate reformers want to hasten the pace of privatization. Stand for Children has sponsored anti-teacher, anti-union legislation in Illinois and in Massachusetts. Will voters in Indianpolis allow the corporate reformers to buy control of their public schools and turn them into privately managed charters? If you live in Indianapolis, defend your community’s public schools. Tell the corporate reformers they are not for sale. Indianapolis is one of the main targets for the privatization movement. Mind Trust is pushing hard to make Indianapolis into an all-charter district, like New Orleans. The New Orleans story, as you probably know, is all hype. Most of the charters are rated D or F, and the district is ranked 65th out of 68 districts in the state. As my post today said, money is coming in from out of state to try to gain reform control of IPS. Bear in mind that what is called reform is plain old privatization, and it has not worked anywhere except when charters exclude kids with disabilities and English language learners. Since reform has no successes to its credit, the reformers are trying to buy local board elections to impose their will. Who are the traditional public school supporters to vote for, if you’re against IPS board seats being purchased by “Stand for Children” and the privatizers? My recommendations, after studying this, would be Annie Roof, Michael Brown and Samantha Adair-White. dianeravitch.net/2014/10/22/indianapolis-corporate-reform-pours-in-to-gain-control-of-school-board/
