Did you know ? Finland has more than 60,000 lakes, mainly in the southeast, carved out by glaciers in the last Ice Age. Water covers about ten per cent of the country. Forests of Pine, spruce and birch trees cover about 80 per cent of Finland. There are over 4000 islands on the Congo river with some 50 of them over 10 miles in length. The falls of Guaira or Sete Quedas (Seven falls) on the Parana river along the border between Brazil and Paraguay were among the greatest in the world in terms of water volume with an annual average of 470,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) flowing over them (flood flows of around 1,750,000 cubic feet per second). The falls were submerged in the backwaters of the Itaipu dam. For sake of comparison the average unregulated flow of water over the Niagara falls amounts to 212,000 cubic feet per second
