Did you know that consuming just one sports drink can undo the health benefits of a normal 30 minute exercise session? Queensland Health Advanced Nutritionist Mathew Dick said that while sports drinks were a good source of hydration and energy for serious athletes doing intensive exercise, they were not designed for, or needed by, most people who exercised or played sport. “Sports drinks are only suitable for people doing at least 90 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 60 minutes of high-intensity exercise in a single session,” Mathew said.
