Did you know, this is what the Colosseum in Rome, originally looked like? It seated 70,000 people. You can see the canvas tarp that was able to cover the structure in the event of bad weather, or provide shade in the warm Roman Summers. In addition to the Gladiator fights, Christian execution Games, etc, they would also flood the Main Floor of the Colosseum and have Naval Battles for entertainment! The structure was weakened by one of the great fires of Rome and then damaged by an earthquake, which is how we know it to look today! PS...notice the statues in the arches? Look closely, those are the statues that surround St. Peters Square at the Vatican! One more thing....the holes in the wall? After the collapse of the Roman Empire, the Romans decided to build a Church/Temple to honor God and serve as a symbol of their renewed faith and dedication to the Church, so they built the Vatican... they stole the gold and expensive décor from the walls of the Colosseum to decorate/adorn the Vatican and that is why you see so many holes in the walls of the Colosseum, today!
