Didn’t go to the walking group yesterday as Quaker work was piling up! Not a good sign. But went to the Lent study group on how we speak out or not, and afterwards some of us trickled down to the Byers Road by the University for a sarnie before the Glasgow Historical Association in Hillhead Library. Dr White gave a fascinating and erudite account of the slavery apologists and anti-slavery campaigns in Glasgow and Scotland. Some Quaker families were involved on the anti side and it was useful to learn about those. But the context was very much how the Scottish churches were dominant in the campaign, with some stimulation from down south.
