Dima Ramlawi, a 7-year old girl who was injured by the Israeli bombs in the Swings Massacre, which occurred on the first day of Eid, also suffered the death of her 10-year old cousin Osama during the attacks while playing. Dima, a beautiful, young girl with a bright future ahead of her was hit on her head by missile fragments, leaving her fully paralyzed, when she first arrived at St. Joseph hospital here in Jerusalem she wasnt moving at all. But thankfully, day by day, she started getting better, she was even eventually able to move her fingers. However, the greatest accomplishment came two weeks after her arrival—she smiled. Days go by and Dima begins talking again, and her first question, directed to her grandmother who was by her bedside was “Am I going to be able to walk once again teta Um Maher? During her mere short stay here, Dima’s house was fully demolished and her grandfather was killed. Everyone who visits her tries their best to talk and play with her, to keep her spirits high to help her through the healing process. I am one of the lucky people that Dima likes to talk to. She even thinks I look like her dead uncle Ahmad who passed away a few months ago. She calls me Ahmad Tarek. Today, I am happy because Dima had her surgery to remove fragments of the missile remaining in her head.The healing process is yet a long way ahead, but I hope that one day Dima, you will be able to walk and swing again.
