Director of Operations Posting Date: September 5, 2013 Closing Date: September 27, 2013 Location: Annapolis Valley First Nation, Cambridge, Nova Scotia The Director of Operations position is a full-time position. The Director of Operations contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations of the Annapolis Valley First Nation and is responsible for providing support to, and be accountable to the Chief and Council of the Annapolis Valley First Nation. The following is a list of the main duties associated with the position: • Implement Chief and Council strategic plans; • Implement and plan for Community Services and Community Engagement • Provide Administrative Leadership to Annapolis Valley First Nation Administration • Oversees, plans and implements policies and procedures for all areas of the Annapolis Valley First Nation operations; • Oversees and provides direction and support to administrative staff, contractors and consultants; • Ensures all funding requirements, including reporting for all funding sources received are fulfilled; • Ensures Annapolis Valley First Nation budgets are executed and managed as directed and intended by the Annapolis Valley First Nation Chief and Council within appropriate accounting guidelines; • Actively seeks funds for operations, projects and programs outside AANDC programs; • Provides input into the long-range planning and short-term (annual) Annapolis Valley First Nation operational requirements, and develops and implements budgets accordingly; • Organizes and establishes internal (in-office) and external communications; • Confers closely with Annapolis Valley First Nation Chief and Council to coordinate and prioritize planning and overall objectives and ensures that Annapolis Valley First Nation Chief and Council Resolutions are being adhered to; • Represents Annapolis Valley First Nation’s Administrative interests on various boards/committees for organizations that Annapolis Valley First Nation’s has an association with as necessary. • Qualifications • Must possess a minimum of a Masters degree from a recognized college or university in Business Administration, Indigenous Governance, or Public Administration as well as at least 5 years Senior Management experience working with First Nations organizations/governments; • Strong track-record for acquiring funding; • Strong oral and written communication skills is a necessity; • Work cooperatively and effectively with others; • Ability to motivate, inspire and lead a small but focused team; • Must be able to maintain strict rules of confidentiality of the office of the Annapolis Valley First Nation Working Conditions Annapolis Valley First Nation is small community in the Annapolis Valley area. The Director of Operations usual work arrangement is Monday through Thursday, 8:30AM to 4:00PM. As well as attend evening Chief and Council meetings, and occasional meetings on weekends.
