Directors Note - Youre in your seat, waiting for the movie to start. Suddenly, the screen fades from soda ads and trivia to the green MPAA movie-rating screen. Then, from the darkness -- a deep, rich voice of granite and thunder rumbles: In a world... Don LaFontaine, we miss you. You might have seen him some Geico tv ads, almost certainly heard him utter those fateful words over the course of the 5000+ movie trailers he narrated. When we heard that phrase, we knew we were about to be transported to a world or realm of experience beyond our own. And thats what were trying to do with this show -- to take you to another world. One like ours, but different in a fundamental way: technologically, socially, or scientifically. You give us the rule thats changed, the way that world is different, and over the course of two hours well try to show you what it would be like to live there. But this show wont simply be a string of riffs on What if we had flying cars? (or whatever it is youve chosen for us to do) -- it will be an exploration of how that change affects the people who live there. Well see their lives, their stories, of how they relate, how they work, play, love, and sometimes die. In the end, its not about the world and whats different, but about the people and how theyre just like us. So sit back, dig in to that free popcorn, and fasten your (imaginary) seatbelts -- the journey is about to begin! -Dave Dyson
