Disclaimer: This is not a rant, but a firm cosign. As of late, I am sick and tired of the complaining surrounding Pomplamoose suggesting that they paid themselves and their crew too much to tour. One argument was that they should have done it for free until the numbers were crunched after tour. STAHP. quit smokin that chronic. I gladly applaud anyone who is willing to invest in themselves and their business, but also rightfully paying people who help make their live show a success. News flash, WORLD, being a musician is real work. Conte was fair in trying to throw his colleagues a bone. The fact that the world is gross enough to believe that music should be free is just plain ignorant. Its just as ignorant as Garner gettin choked out by 5-0 on video and the officer not held responsible. *crickets* Please stop with the disrespectful shit, consumers/listeners. If musicians didnt love music, they certainly wouldnt make it just so you could get it for free. If you want free music, pick up an instrument and lull yourself, but dont expect anyone who works for a living in music to just settle for less than a fair wage. Being a starving artist is neither cute nor necessary. Think of it this way: If you dont want to work your dead-end job at corporate dot sucks for free, then allow the same respect for working musicians. Bye, Felicia. Also, support the homie below. Thanks in advance. The corresponding article is on point. Matthew Santos writes, First, check out the very well written article below. TRUTH. Second... Im lucky and grateful to have been able to survive by doing music full time for this long, but theres a quickening trend towards the devaluing of music that kind of worries me and probably most of us who depend on making music for a living. It seems there is a clear division of thought these days when it comes to music. Some think it should all be free (or $10 a month), while others choose to actively support and contribute to its creation. To this notion, Id like to offer a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has ever purchased a record, come to a show, picked up a t-shirt or made a pledge or donation. I want to give you all a massive bear hug. There is a real cost in creating/recording/touring this music, and its becoming harder and harder to continue making it work. Without your choice to offer your support and appreciation, we simply couldnt do it. As my Pledge Music campaign comes close to an end, (one week left) the division in thought seems ever apparent, as out of 7,750 FaceBook likes approximately 156 generous people have stepped forward to offer their financial support as of now, and Im so grateful. Ill probably lose a few likes for this rant, and for pushing my Pledge fundraising campaign so hard as of late, but thats fine by me. In fact, if you find this post to be disagreeable, take this as a polite invitation to unlike my page These are the things most artists are forced to do to make it work now that we have to compete with a free version of ourselves, and it seems like most of us are reciprocating this reality by substituting real support with Spotify and other streaming services that grossly undervalue music. Rant over.
