Distribution of Permanent Voters Card in Osun: INEC faults false propaganda by APC National Secretariat The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday faulted press statements by the All Progressives Congress, APC, which claimed that there have been hindrances on the the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to registered voters in Osun State. A statement issued in Abuja by Mr Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, stated that the distribution of the cards had been ongoing since March 7. ``This clarification is necessary against the backdrop of calls on the commission in the last couple of days to ensure timely distribution of the PVCs. ``A political party had at the weekend accused INEC of being painfully slow in processing the permanent voter cards. ``Also, a non-governmental organisation on Monday, urged the commission to ensure timely distribution of the PVCs before the governorship election, suggesting that the contrary is presently the case,’’ it said The statement recalled that the commission undertook polling units level distribution of PVCs to registered voters in the state from March 7 to March 9. It said that the distribution exercise was carried out simultaneously in Osun and Ekiti states. It said in line with INEC guidelines, uncollected cards at the end of the polling units’ level distribution were taken to respective local government offices of the commission in the state. The statement said that the PVCs were subsequently being issued to legitimate holders at the local government offices in the state. ``The distribution at the local government level has been ongoing since then. ``All PVCs yet to be collected are at the 30 local government offices of the commission in Osun state awaiting legitimate holders to come for them,’’ he said. He however stressed that the commission disallowed proxy collection of the cards to prevent possible abuse by unscrupulous persons. He urged every prospective voter in the state yet to collect the card to urgently do so ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Aug. 9. Idowu further stressed that only registered voters with PVCs would be allowed to vote during the elections.
