Distrust of the police has a genesis that started long before the urban experiences that most associate with it today. There was no loud rap music, sagging pants, drug dealing gangs with illegal guns, hoodies and skittles, loose cigarettes, or other of the modern habits viewed as antisocial that attract police attention. What is clear is that this type of government sanctioned behavior towards Black people led to survival tactics and distrust that got passed down from generation to generation ... Tough to repair when trust is destroyed, or never existed in the first place. The remedies must be considerate of this history ...
