Divine stopped attending classes where I teach months ago (April - TopicsExpress

Divine stopped attending classes where I teach months ago (April to be precise). Of course, the absence of a smartie would definitely be noticed. I asked her fellow students of her whereabouts, they echoed, She has stopped attending classes, Maam. What? Why? What happened?, I asked out of curiosity. Uche (the I. T. K) said, No money na, and bursted out laughing. My facial expression said enough which made him wear a serious face immediately. While going home that same day, I saw Divine collecting notes form her classmate, Chioma. She was suprised to have seen me walking towards her. Ah! Aunty, good evening. I miss you. Come here, D. I miss you too. How are you? Why are you collecting those notes, and why did you stop attending classes?, I asked. Aunty, my Mum said I should stay back. She said she has no money to pay. I collect these note to write and read. Eh eh! You this girl ehh! Whats her occupation? She is a petty trader. Okay. Start classes come May. Ill pay for you Ah! Aunty! Thank you so much, Aunty!!! Now, that is what I want. I want you to be happy. Youre welcome, D. I payed for this child for three months(April, May and June). I didnt do that because I earn enough, I did that because of how smart and how much she would benefit from it. This month, being July, I told her to stop attending classes because I couldnt continue paying. Besides, Ive paid for the half month already. She was sad and couldnt utter a word. After breaking the sad news to her, she walked away. Minutes later she came back to my table. With teary eyes she asked, Why? Aunty, why? Doesnt your Mum know I foot your bills? Why hasnt she come to thank me? Doesnt she know when grattitude is being shown to someone for the help rendered to her, the person tends to want to do more and more? Divine didnt come like I asked. Its days already! Wow. The mother showed no concern. What sort of a mother is this? Did she pay her daughters lesson fee in the dream land? Has been thankful become a rote, or is it something we actually contemplate each time it is said? I fear our concept of thankfulness has become skewd, that we feel showing appreciation is for the benefit of the one being thanked. As for Divine, make she rest too and continue to dey collect notes. She fit start next month.
