Division 3 matches review: After a terrifying loss in division 2 games played at New Zealand, Nepal was forced back to the division 3 as it finished at the bottom of the table failing to address the competition. After a week of practise in Sri Lanka, Team Nepal with the skipper Paras Khadka landed on Malaysia for their forthcoming competition that would decide the fate of Nepali players and as a whole Nepalese sports lover. On 22nd oct nepal played its first match against Uganda which was quite disappointing and beyond the expectation. The team with blue and red jersey did quite struggle to limit the score in the board. The 203 runs looked chase-able, after the spinners and seamers did their best. However, Nepali batsmen couldnt do much with their woods as no one could score more and have better partnership, however the opener Naresh Budayair was exception, as he scored praisable runs, he was quite slow with the strike rate of only 60. Nepal lost its last 5 wickets even without scoring 50 runs. After the first lost, Nepalese team came up in the field with something productive, tactics. Nepal chose to field, as usual, after winning the toss. Looking the statistics, Nepals captain Paras Khadka has 95% chose to field after winning the toss. This time skippers choice favor Nepalese fate. Bermuda, a strong team which played 2007 world cup, got restricted with just 100 runs. Bowlers were exceptional and their bowlings were a scene to watch. This time the fielding of nepal cant be neglected. The spectacular catch in the long-on by sagar and the run-outs were a moment to watch. Though the 101 runs target was an easier one, Nepal lost its opener very early, this too as usual. the front line and middle order batsmen played great shots contrary to their former dots, due to which nepal reached the target in just 11.1 over. This gave a very big leap in the net run-rate. The third match of Nepal, which was against the old time rival Singapore, brought the lost smile in players, coaches and supporters who stood and sang RATO RA CHANDRA SURYA from the pavillion. Paras went for the toss and came back disappointed(owns perspective) after failing to continue the culture of fielding in the first inning. Singapores captain gifted Nepal with first bat decision thinking this would pull their confidence down. But Nepali players proved it wrong. Though opener, Subash Khakurel, returned to the bench, the second ball, failing to add a single run in the board. Budhayair and Gyanendra Malla did a pretty well job. Classical batsman, Gyanendra played the finest short to every spins and seams, scoring the first century from Nepals side in Div 3, 2014. Gyanendra was dismissed as he got caught after his devastating century. Other players too played mesmerizing shots throwing each ball out of the boundary, irrespective of fours and sixes. The second inning was even more interesting as Singapore was limited within 21.4 overs with the score of 73. From Singapore, only four players scored double digit runs that too below 15. Sompal Kami took 4 important wickets with 3 maiden in his 9 overs bowling. Basanta Regmi who came late, with the economy rate of 1.05 took another 4 wickets. He did his job with both bat and ball. The other two were compelled to move back to pavillion by amrit bhattarai. With 2 wins and 1 lose, Nepal is in 2nd position in the point table after uganda which has won all of its 3 games. Still there is no any other match to Nepals NRR that is of 2.414 which is absolutely very higher than that of Uganda. If Nepal wins the next match, it has very high possibility of getting into the final. WIll Nepal continue its winning sequence or will there be something upsetting for Nepals cricket. The answers to all these will be soon revealed in the next match. BY:SANJOG KARKI (the author is the review writer for espncricinfos umbrella website nepalcricinfo)
