Do we want the duopoly, Coles and Woolworths, moving into - TopicsExpress

Do we want the duopoly, Coles and Woolworths, moving into Financial and Insurance services?. Wesfarmers, who own Coles are insurers, why the need to take it into the supermarket? Profit, power and market control are the answer. Regulators have allowed the two giants to grow and absorb competition through both vertical and horizontal integration. The end result is we are now paying approximately 20c per litre more for fuel. How much more per kilo of meat, fruit and veges, no one really knows. The market systems success depends upon genuine competition, something sadly disappearing as these two behemoths continue to grow and envelope competitors. It is passed time that regulators stepped in and curtailed the domination of Coles and Woolworths. The punters 4c per litre discount hasnt saved them anything, except having more petrol stations to choose from. smh.au/business/banking-and-finance/woolworths-reminded-it-isnt-a-bank-20140723-zw4jw.html
