„Do you miss it a little?“ „Definitely. When you look out there, you see the planets – you see Venus, you see Mars, and the Moon. The Moon is unbelievably clear. It is crystal clear on the horizon. And when the Moon disappears on the horizon, it deforms a bit like we know from sundown here on Earth. Yeah, when you look out there, it does pull you out. I think that lies in our nature as humans. When you think about it, we humans are Discoverers. Since hundreds of thousands of years we have always wanted to travers the next ocean, explore the islands, the continents. And since fifty years we have had the ability to conduct space travel. That is pretty much the blink of an eye in human history. And wenn one thinks about how long we have already come in those fifty years, then one can ponder where we may be carried in the next thousand years. And for me its clear as day, that space travel – and above all else manned space travel – will continue. That will not be called into question anymore. Because we humans are Discoverers. We have the ability and we use it. Weve always seen that. So for me this is all the beginning of a long, long interesting story.“ // „Gibt ein bisschen Fernweh?“ „Definitiv. Wenn man da raus schaut, man sieht ja auch die Planeten, man sieht Venus, man sieht Mars, und der Mond ist unglaublich viel klarer. Der ist kristalklar am Horizont. Und wenn der Mond am Horizont verschwindet, dann deformiert er sich ein bisschen so wie beim Sonnenunterang, wie man es auch von der Erde kennt. Ja, wenn man da raus schaut, da zieht es einem schon raus. Ich denke, das liegt an unsere Natur als Menschen. Wenn man sich überlegt: wir Menschen sind Entdecker. Seit Jahrhunderttausenden schon haben wir schon immer das nächste Meer überqueren wollen, Inseln erforschen, Kontinente erforschen. Und jetzt haben wir seit fünfzig Jahren die Möglichkeit Weltraumfahrt zu betreiben. Das ist quasi ein Augenzwinker in der Menschheitsgeschichte. Und wenn man sich überlegt wie weit wir schon gekommen sind in diesen fünfzig Jahren, dann kann man sich nur überlegen wie weit uns das in den nächsten tausend Jahren tragen wird. Und für mich ist das Sonnenklar, dass die Raumfahrt – und vor allen Dingen die bemannte Raumfahrt – die wird auch bleiben. Das wird nie mehr in Frage gestellt sein. Weil wir Menschen Entdecker sind. Wir haben die Möglichkeit und wir nutzen sie. Das hat sich schon immer gezeigt.
