Do you still remember this? By Cde Phakama Uyapo Masole To: UB SRC President From: Minister of Academic Affairs Date: 06 August 2013 RE: RESIGNATION OF MYSELF FROM THE UB SRC OFFICE OF THE MINISTER OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS The above caption bears reference to the resignation of me from the UB SRC and therefore requests that I be relieved of all my duties of the UB SRC office immediately due to the reasons stated below: 1. DELIBERATE CHAOS CAUSED BY THE UBSRC TOP 3 EXECUTIVE: The President, Vice-President and the Secretary General of the council have deliberately constantly mislead the students pertaining to sponsorship issues thus causing unnecessary confusion within the council and the UB students’ community. This was confirmed by the president deliberately keeping the letter of extension of registration dates of sponsorship dates a secret until the extended dates elapsed without the knowledge of the UB SRC junior ministers and the other 2 UB SRC Executive members (i.e. Administrative Secretary and Treasurer). 2. BENCH MARKING TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA: I was displeased by the fact that the president deemed it right to accept the Botswana Books P15 000 sponsorship to go for the bench marking process in South Africa at the top of the agenda about the bookshop. This I have always believed shall cause some conflict of interest when it comes to thorough student advocacy pertaining to Botswana Books saga. 3. COMPLETE LACK OF TRANSPARENCY ON FINANCIAL DEALINGS AND ALL DECISIONS OF THE UB SRC: i. The President, Vice-President and the Secretary General of the council have never called a full body council meeting to discuss important issues such as this year’s Freshers-Ball and other events to be funded with the students’ subvention fund which to my common knowledge have always consumed quite a significant portion of the fund. This alone has convinced me that The President, Vice President, Secretary General and the Minister of Entertainment and Culture are nothing but fraudulent bearing in mind that apparently Freshers-Ball preparations are at an advanced stage despite the ignorance of the full council meeting, and all remains a speculation. ii. There has never been a full council meeting which the President and Secretary General has ever called rather all were termed “council briefings” after the trio comprising of the President, Vice President and Secretary General have taken a decision to just inform the council members of it all instead of deliberating on motions thus completely rendering the whole council dis-functional, irrelevant and a mere gathering there to rubber stamp the trio’s ideas. iii. All the times the UB SRC has always learnt of meetings and resolutions of the “UB SRC” in public domains such as the social network Facebook, newspapers and just hears by say on the streets. 4. Giving issues beyond UB SRC’s scope of operation complete attention of the council rather than focusing much on serving the UB students’ community. E.g. the Limkongkwing series of events and re-instatement of person’s on Fail and Discontinue status according to the University of Botswana’s regulations. This therefore means nothing but misusing the funds of our own electorates to further matters that are of your own (President) interest for nothing but your own (President), Vice President and Secretary General’s publicity. And this great issue of concern have delayed progress in handling UB student community’s issues. 5. Continued in-appropriate disrespect, demoralisation and inhumane disdainfulness of fellow UB-SRC members displayed by the President, Secretary General and Minister of Entertainment & Culture. This shows nothing but an irresponsible leadership that can never be leadership at all in a democratic setting. 6. Last but not least, I am convinced with total certainty that the UB SRC is constantly becoming even more irrelevant to the University of Botswana’s setting with your AUTOCRATIC and TOTALITARIAN JUNTA OF THE UB SRC (which in actual sense means the four (4) mentioned earlier in this letter.) To conclude, allow me to state with clarity that I am completely disappointed in having worked under your ‘UB SRC’ regime. My relatively short stay in your publicity drunk and static “UB SRC”, UB SRC has never felt like a UB SRC at all rather like hell on earth. I hope my resignation shall come as a wake-up call on your side, provided you truly believe in progress and completely embrace STUDENT ADVOCACY. Kind Regards, Masole, Uyapo (Minister of Academic Affairs) 200902159 +267 75959558
