Doesnt anyone tire of the the crosstown rivalry? South Side verses the North Side? North of Madison, south of Madison etc, etc? Not me when it comes down to hard numbers verses emotional responses. That almost sounds like a political commentary in the making, Conservative verses Liberal but I wont go there for now lets just stick to the numbers and they dont lie no matter how you try and spin it Cub fans. Im going to use 2005 to date because that seems to be where the commentaries I hear from Cub fans say Sox arent what theyre cracked up to be and one would expect that from bitter feelings because the North Side folks are aching for a World Series title like you wouldnt believe. By the way just go over to the southwest corner of 35th & I 90 94 Dan Ryan and look for yourselves Cub fans and you can see the trophy yourselves or if you cant stomach it in person Ill post it for you. 2005 was and is and will be for all eternity the year the White Sox had a dream season that brought back something BIG in this town since the 1981 Chicago Sting Championship season, which led to the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl which led to the Chicago Bulls dynasty of being three peat World Champs twice--- 1991-92-93-96-97-98. Oh yea Michael Jordan took a break playing for the White Sox in between the three peats. Ive always told folks about the Sting being the first champs in this town in a while, 18 years to be exact, but to some, soccer doesnt count but I learned an appreciation for the sport both the indoor and outdoor seasons I attended back then with only 4-5 thousand faithful at times in the beginning until that 1981 dream season where we finally filled Comiskey Park 39,623 screaming fans against the The San Diego Sockers to play for the rights to go to Toronto Canada for the championship game. I remember that game and ending up on the field and running around high fiving any and all of the elated fans and players. I also took out my pocket knife and cut a piece of the net off for a souvenir . A hand full of Chicagoans 6000 strong of which my brother John Bucky Bjorvik and our friends Salz and Deinsh squeezed into Dannys Datsun and headed up to Toronto for the final game against the New York Cosmos & won in a shoot out with Rudy Glenn getting the game winner. During that 2-3 year span I went to just about every home game @ Wrigley Field & Chicago Stadium of which every home game ticket I bought for me and my brother and friends where at the ticket office near the top floor of 333 North Michigan. I worked in the basement office of Arrow Messenger at the time and I would take the elevator up to meet John McDonough opening up the the office and I would buy my most of my tickets from him personally as I timed him opening up the tiny office they had. I watched from afar Johns Midas touch career in the Chicagoland area as he worked both for the Cubs, 24 years and the Hawks organizations. You can tell I dig behind the scene folks who dont get the notoriety, at the time but I believe are key figures in successful organizations, especially during Championship seasons. I know hes riding high with what the Hawks have accomplished since 2007 I digressed a bit, sorry for that back to White Sox verse Cubs, last 10 years. With 10 games to go in the regular season of 2014 the total wins and losses over the past 10 years are Cubs------749 wins------857 losses Sox---------811 wins-----797 losses. Now according my math that says the Sox are better then the Cubs these past 10 years. During this stretch we almost had a subway series back in 2008 when both teams won their divisions but both choked and killed that almost dream season for this Ole Man during the 5 game 1st round playoff format. Cubs lost in 3 to LA & Sox loss to Tampa Bay 3 games to 1. Oh well! After the White Sox 2005 season the Cubs rebounded from a lousy 2006 season of 66-96 to win the division twice in 2007 with an 85-77 season and 2008 @ 97-64. The White Sox 2006 season wasnt good enough with 90 wins and 72 losses as they finished 3rd then 4th in 2007 with a record of 72-90 setting up the 2008 what I thought would be the dream season of a subway series but to no avail. After that 2008 season for both teams its not been that pretty for both sides. White Sox average wins & losses per year 77-83 to the Cubs 70-89.5 for the last six years. ( I wont round up the loss average for sake of pissing off some Cub fans) So once again the math tells the truth that on paper the White Sox are the better team and have been since 2005 no matter how you spin it Cub fans. To paraphrase a quote from the movie Scarface with Al Pacino the eyes Chico, they never lie. Same goes for you fans north of Madison, the numbers Cubbies, they never lie tbc
