Donation Dorothy Evelyn Cameron 1921-2014 Dorothy Evelyn (Powel) Cameron - New Glasgow and the IOOF Home, Pictou died April 4th, 2014 in her 93rd year. Born on November 24th ,1921, she was the only child of Stanley and Ethel (Henry) Powel of Little Harbour. After completing High School, Dorothy studied cosmetology. On December 18th, 1943 she married Arnold Cameron and together they moved to Winnipeg where Arnold was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Dorothy returned to New Glasgow when Arnold went overseas. Following the war, Dorothy and Arnold lived in Kentville and New Glasgow, where Arnold served as Town Clerk. Arnold finished his career working for the Nova Scotia Municipal Affairs Department. It was during this time, they returned to the Powel Homestead in Little Harbour and then, on retirement, to their home on Prince Street, New Glasgow. Dorothy was a gifted artist, a wonderful cook, and she loved to play bridge or get on the golf course. And, as everyone knew, she loved anything chocolate. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Arnold on March 4th, 2013, her mother and father-in-law Nellie and Donald Cameron and by all Arnold’s siblings, Katherine (Frank), Henry (Ethel), Gordon, Stanley (Ruth). She is survived by her cousins, Phyllis (Gordon) Hicks and Bob Oke, Moncton, NB; James, Don, Patsy, Carol, and Jane Munro, Mass., USA; her sister-in-law Anna Cameron, East River St. Mary’s and by her nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday April 7th in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow immediately. Burial will be in the ValleyViewCemetery, East River St. Mary’s. Dorothy’s final years were lived among the love and care of the staff of the IOOF Nursing Home in Pictou. Through the staff and residents, Dorothy was surrounded by great love, care and compassion and so donations, in her memory, to the Recreation Department of IOOF Nursing Home would be appreciated.
