Donations are still needed! Please help if you can!!! Ben and his human live in San Diego California This is what happened to Ben on that terrible morning: I let him out to run a bit and poop before an appointment. We are near a trail we run and hike on. He likes squirrels and the snake was probably camping out the same squirrel hole. I never saw the snake and I doubt Ben did either. UPDATE! 03/16/2014 by Melanie carne Just got home from the vet as when i went to visit this morning they were swamped and i will not interfere with them. i had a scare this morning as his face swelled his eyes shut almost. They checked blood and clotting factors are actual better than they were at 2 am so it is just edema moving around. His urine is beginning to clear up from what they believe to myoglobin (sp?). His vitals continue to remain perfect and blood work is improving. He just looks like a big awful fuzzy hot mess. he had to be put in an open kennel as he was crawling around too much and getting in the way but he is too big for the door to be shut and they want him where they can see him instead of in the big dog runs in the other room. I tried to ask the questions i have been getting. Factors making his bite so severe and variables. Size of snake (unknown) had the snake eaten yet this year or was it fresh out of hibernation? Snakes are much more potent in the spring. Individual dog sensitivity to toxins and venom in general is variable. Ben whispered in my ear and said he thought there were certain breeds that could probably withstand nuclear attacks but he would not name names ;-) youcaring/medical-fundraiser/save-ben-he-is-only-2-years-old-/150314/update/138071
