Dont expect much warming today as we see another rather raw day - TopicsExpress

Dont expect much warming today as we see another rather raw day on this December 23rd. Temperatures this morning range from the upper 30s in the NW to the mid 50s in the south. A cold front is currently seen across SE AR and will continue to slowly push south. A storm system to our south and upper trough will combine to bring we weather to the state today into Christmas Eve. Rain is pushing NE from TX/LA/OK into AR this morning. This rainfall will continue moving into and across the state today as the low pressure center S of us continues to develop. Thunderstorms will be seen to the south and SE of AR but only rain is expected in our state. Temps will hold steady or only warm slightly before falling slowly this afternoon as the front continues moving south and the colder air builds in. Rain chances will continue tonight. The upper trough is forecast to close off into an upper level low pressure center and track across Arkansas late tonight and early Wednesday. The upper low has cold air aloft so the rain will be able to transition to snow or a rain/snow mix as it tracks across the state. Surface temps are expected to remain above freezing so the result is expected to be mainly rain with a few wet snowflakes in central AR with better chances of snow in the northern and NE sections of the state. There could be a window where some heavier snow showers fall which could lead to some accumulation briefly, but mainly on grassy and exposed objects. This is something to be watched as these upper systems can surprise us sometimes. Model data is showing any accumulations in the state expect for the far NW in the higher elevations and that was generally less than an inch. It is worth watching and Ill continue to monitor. This will be as close as were going to get to a White Christmas this year. The rain or rain/snow mix will continue moving eastward tomorrow morning with cool and cloudy conditions expected. Highs will be in the 40s. With this storm system to the east of AR on Christmas Day we should see much more sunshine with mild temps. Temperatures will range from the upper 40s to upper 50s statewide. Another weak system is forecast to move in late Friday into Saturday with another chance of rain and possibly some sort of mix in the north with colder weather forecast going into New Years. Stay dry and warm today. Radar and satellite shot this morning. NAM simulated radar at 6:00 am Wednesday showing rain in central and eastern AR with some snow showing up in north-central sections.
