Dont know if this is true. If it is, then this is ridiculous. The Oppression of Sunnis in Shia Iran ------------------------------------------------------ The following is part of the status of a good bro of mine (a British born Muslim of Bangladeshi origin). I thought about sharing it just to create awareness amongst the Muslims in Mauritius about the reality of being a Sunni in Shia Iran. Many Muslims here have the misconception that Iran is an Islamic country that treats its citizens with justice. The brother said: I have an uncle who works and has lived in Iran (Isfahan) for the last 15 years. He isnt a hardcore Salafi or anti-Shia, in fact hes just an average Joe Blogg working as a tailor to send money back home. He told me the following: --> Sunnis are oppressed in Iran - FACT. Economically, politically and religiously. --> In Iran there are NATIONAL bonfire nights where figures of Abu Bakr (ra), Umar (ra) and Uthman (ra) are burnt, and they are cursed. --> The few Sunni mosques that are in Iran are regularly raided and shut down. --> There is a shrine of Abu Lula (Piruz Nahavandi), the Persian slave who assassinated Umar (ra) in the town Kashan. People regularly got there to celebrate the death of Umar (ra), pray over the tomb, send glad tidings to Abu Lula and seek intercession from him. --> Sunnis in Iran dont dare to name their children Umar, Abu Bakr, Uthman or Aisha out of fear of harassment, arrest, being attacked, not getting a job or accepted into universities. These are just a few things my uncle told me. I assure you he is NOT a political activist, anti-Shia, or even hardcore into the dheen, just a simpleton from Bangladesh trying to make a living to support his family. Nowhere in the Muslim world are revered figures of Shi’ism cursed, their deaths celebrated on national holidays and such lies about the most beloved family members and companions of Muhammad (saw) are propagated on a state level.
