Dorothy Jean Jeffries Hawkins, 79, died on Saturday, the 27th day of December, 2014, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, Shelbyville, Kentucky. Born in Shelby County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Albert Esley and Sarah Elizabeth Brewer Jeffries and the widow of Earl Thomas Hawkins, Sr. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Hawkins. Her survivors include her son, Earl Thomas Hawkins, Jr., of Crestwood; her daughters, Marlene Hawkins of Miami, Florida, Janice Hawkins of Shelbyville, Judy Brewer of Bagdad, and Johnna K. Smitha of Mount Eden; her brother, Willie Jeffries of Taylorsville; her sister, Emma Byrd of Shelbyville; and her six grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 P. M., Wednesday, the 31st day of December, 2014, at the Bagdad Cemetery, Bagdad, Kentucky, with Reverend Mark Glasscock officiating. Interment will be in the Bagdad Cemetery in Bagdad, Kentucky. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Shelby County Humane Society.
