Doubles competition result. Winners. Arron Akester and Noel Geddes. 6 teams contested the doubles competition today eventually after a few late showings. First round we decided to change it up this year and play the alternate shot then the scramble second. A great early showing from Tommy D and Sam Hills put them at the top with a very impressive 55. Kevin OBrien and Joe Hammell were tied second on 56 with Dean Rowe and Danny Smith. Two shots further back were myself and Arron, who couldnt make a birdie, also tying with Harry Murrell and Tom ward. Phil Maidment and John Fitzmaurice were one shot further back at 59. After count-backs. The final round groups all made good progress towards lowering those totals. The first group consisting of Phil and john/Harry and Tom, both improved with 49s in the scramble putting them on 108 (level) and 107 (-1) respectively. With a one shot lead into the final round Tommy and Sam made further progress hitting 46 (-8) in the scramble and getting to -7 total there playing partners Danny and dean only 1 shot behind couldnt put on enough pressure on them but played well for a 49 (105 (-3) for 4th place) Joe and Kevin Kept up great play by going -4 after 6 holes played and eventually finished on 46 also, for a 102 (-6) and third place. Myself and Arron hade a great final round keeping up with the early pace set by Kev and Joe. Still 2 shots back after a -5 front nine we had a great back 9 to finish -11 in the scramble, Total 101(-7) tied first with Sam and Tommy. The following 3 hole playoff saw myself and Arron birdie the first to there par. Hole 2 and we were fortunate to birdie again with Tommy and Sam following suit. Tom and Sam needing a birdie on 18 put the ball to within 5 feet, with ours being at the back of the green. Both myself and Arron narrowly missed our 15ft birdie chance for par and -2 for the 3 playoff holes. unfortunately for both Sam and Tommy neither managed to find the putt to tie the play-off giving me and Arron the win. The whole thing was very enjoyable, we had a great tussle with Kev and Joe who hardly missed a green, just went a bit cold on the putting at the end and we should defo make it a bit more regular.
