Doug van der Walt shares his moment with Madiba: In 1999 I worked in Sandton. I was in Sandton City during my lunch break wandering around, and I see a crowd of people moving my way. Suddenly the reporters and bodyguards give way and Mandela walks right up to me, shakes my hand and asks me about my sweater (it was black with white stripes across the stomach, resembling a "Sharks" rugby jersey) He asked me if I played rugby. I was so overwhelmed I only mumbled "Lock". He said they need tall men for the national team. I remember how warm and friendly he was. He shook my hand again, took his leave and was off to give a speech. I was on a high for a couple of days after that.
