Down On My Luck by Vic Mensa isnt your typical raw hip-hop song, rather a song a DJ would play in a club. I like to think of it as the genre of House Music and Hip-Hop combined. While the song itself is about Vic adjusting to his current lifestyle of upholding a public image, the video depicts a night at the club where he has some horrible luck. (hence Down On My Luck) In the video theres about four different scenarios that occur each time he gets a text from his girlfriend, and each time he reacts differently his luck changes. The reoccurrence of his night reminds me of the film, Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray; a weatherman that covers Groundhog Day, but the day keeps repeating over and over.
