Dr. Kathy Danko-McGhee at the Toledo Museum of Art sent these photos of some of our youngest students, participating in a study in which art instructors are providing visual literacy experiences for young children, ages 3 and 4, that will help them to acquire pre-reading skills. The specific pre-reading skills include visual discrimination, visual-spatial perceptual skills, expressive and receptive language abilities, and learning tier two vocabulary words. The size of vocabulary for a kindergarten child is the best predictor for reading comprehension, studies have found. #tpsproud
