E-Cop Alert I thought I would Share some news with you in relation to vehicles parking at the top of Fore Hill in Ely. On Friday 15th July 2014 I attended Cambridge Magistrates Court in relation to a vehicle that had been issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for unnecessary obstruction for parking in the location. The driver opted to have the matter heard at court as the they disputed causing any obstruction. When issuing any Fixed Penalty Notice PCSOs will take a photograph of the obstruction as it takes place and this was used as evidence in court . The magistrates concluded that the offence of causing an unnecessary obstruction was made out and convicted the driver. They were ordered to pay a total cost of £135. On Thursday 24th July local PCSOs carried out high visibility foot patrol in the city. Whilst conducting these patrols a number of Fixed Penalty Notices were issued to vehicles parked illegally. This included Fore Hill to vehicles which were causing an unnecessary obstruction to other road users. In the High Street vehicles that were parked in Loading only bay but were not loading or unloading were also issued tickets as were those who over stayed the 15 minutes permitted time restriction. While one of these Fixed Penalty Notices was being issued the driver returned to their vehicle. Whilst there reason for issuing the ticket was being explained the driver became very agitated and used foul and abusive language towards the PCSO. This was clearly heard and witnessed by members of the public and as a result of his language the driver was issued a Police Notice For Disorder. This is a on the spot fine of £90 under the Public Order Act. While PCSOs understand that receiving any type of parking ticket is not an enjoyable experience we will not tolerate abusive behaviour or language towards us and positive action will be taken against those committing offences. The community of Ely continue to make parking a priority for police enforcement and we will continue to address parking issues across East Cambridgeshire and will take appropriate action against those committing an offence Thank you for your continued support and dont forget to come and speak to us should you ever want a chat or advice.
