EKITI: DANGER LOOMS! PERHAPS,A STITCH IN TIME MIGHT SAVES NINE One issue that has refused to vacate my mind is the latest dimension and escalation of the crisis rocking the ruling party in Ekiti State. When one reflects on the zigzag, tortuous, agonising journey before their victory at the appeal tribunal;the calibre, pedigree and quality of those in the vanguard of the struggle at the time, one will no doubt be disappointed. And it comes rather too early.First, gradually like comments/rumours from detractors and political opponents;like usual party squabble that will fade away;and now,the latest rising action, the denouement/final resolution of which will unfold after next year gubernatorial election in the State. Inspite of the unity, camaraderie and love which existed among the political gladiators during their trying period, how did they allow peoples high hope of them to be dashed and their goodwill squandered, particularly between the two dramatis personae? Observers say the unfolding drama is the carry over of the acrimony generated during the struggle/aspiration into various political offices after the appeal tribunal victory.Another version says it is as a result of betrayal from whom much had been given when most needed and who is also expected to reciprocate the good gesture. Some say the aggrieved is not fairly and properly treated when he expressed his concern/displeasure over certain matter. There may be more, but these appear prominent among them. Now,casualities of the bitter-acrimony have been recorded in Emure Ekiti where report says Mr Foluso Ogundare was shot alongside another female supporter,Mrs Beatrice Ige by some suspected political thugs during a meeting at ward O3.Ogundare was reported to have died at FMC,Ado Ekiti. One only hopes his killers will not become unknown like previous unresolved political murder. Prior to the 2nd term election of Gov Fashola in Lagos State,a notable columnist of repute,Mr Femi Adesina, had counselled and written then quoting Chinua Achebe in Arrow of God that when brothers fight one another to death,a stranger inherits their fathers estate. For Ekiti State, this is quite apt and relevant, and one thing is also sure and certain:An ill wind is blowing ferociously in the political firmament of Ekiti State. Will they allow more casualities from their hard earned victory?
