EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT - KEVIN ROGERS Please join me in thanking my co-worker Kevin Rogers, TSgt, USAF, for his service to our country. Kevin is a Computer Applications Specialist here at Lakeland Electric. Born and raised in Plant City, Florida he joined the US Air Force in 1983. After attending Basic Training in Lackland AFB, Texas, he was assigned 6 months of technical school at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, were he began his career in the field of Satellite and Wideband Communications Equipment. His first assignment out of tech school was at a small 7 man microwave communications site on the white cliffs of Dover, England for 3 years. He supported a total of 3 microwave sites near London through a mobile support team. The equipment was the main route carrying a large percentage of the total communications to Europe from the British Isles. Upon his return to the US, he was stationed at a remote telecom site near Annapolis, Maryland based out of Andrews AFB. His main job was maintaining microwave radio and equipment carrying high priority worldwide communications and also White House Communications Agency support. While stationed there, he was deployed to serve in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for 3 months in support of the United States Air Forces Central Command (USCENTAF) missions with 24 hours a day Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) flight support in the Persian Gulf. After leaving Active Duty and joining the US Air Force Reserves in 1990, he remained at his assigned unit at Andrews AFB alongside Active Duty personnel in the event they were deployed, or replace them without losing support. He performed his 14 years in Reserve Duty by travelling from his home here in Florida to the D.C. area twice a year for 2 week stints until he retired in 2004.
