EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: FOX TELEVISION STATIONS INC. WHBQ TV/FOX 13, MEMPHIS, TN May 30, 2014 The following represent brief/broad descriptions. It is not intended, nor should it be construed, to represent a comprehensive and/or exclusive description of all duties/responsibilities and requites skills associated with each position. General Assignment Reporter Must have the skills and experience necessary to make independent editorial decisions in the field. Candidate must also create, prepare and publish online content as assigned. Must communicate clearly and deal effectively and politely with the public in person and over the phone. Must be an outstanding storyteller and on-air performer. Must have a winning attitude, and the drive to produce more quality content than any other reporter in our Newsroom. Must be willing and able to find new and innovative ways to present stories. Must be able to develop contacts and sources. Other related duties as assigned. A college degree and a minimum of two years of journalism background and television reporting experience required. Multi-media journalist experience preferred. Ability to shoot and edit own stories is a plus. Must possess strong social media skills. Knowledge of fair and accurate journalism practices. Must have or be willing to obtain a drivers license. Newscast Director (Regular Full Time): Utilize Grass Valley Kalypso switcher to direct live newscasts, newsbreaks, programs and specials. Prepare show rundowns in I-News to coordinate all shots and cues. Lead camera crews, audio operator, and floor direct as needed. Other related duties as assigned. A minimum of two years experience directing and/or technical directing on-air for live news programming preferred. Experience with a Grass Valley Kalypso switcher is required. Experience using I-News preferred. Ability to operate a broad range of production equipment, including character generators, audio consoles and master control equipment is desired. Lighting design experience is also a plus. Must be a leader who is pro-active, creative, takes initiative, reacts quickly, projects a positive attitude, and keeps their composure during stressful situations. College degree preferred. Must have or be willing to obtain a drivers license. Sr. Account Executive Responsible for generating revenue from new and existing accounts through effective selling techniques. The Account Executive will coordinate and maintain all sales related activities for assigned accounts, and prepare and conduct presentations for the development of digital and new business. Additionally, the AE is responsible for maintaining knowledge of the markets ratings and programming to effectively interact with the buying community as well as other related duties as assigned. Qualified candidate should have a minimum of three years of media sales experience. Television sales experience is required. Solid knowledge of the market and advertising community, and a proven record of sales accomplishments are essential. Candidate must possess a strong desire to win. Written and automation software required and a college degree is strongly preferred. Must have or be willing to obtain a valid drivers license. Web Sales Manager The Web Sales Manager, under the supervision of the Vice President of Sales, manages the advertising sales effort of the television stations online and mobile digital products. The employee works directly with the Local and National Sales Managers, as well as the Account Executives, to identify advertising opportunities that benefit both new and existing accounts. Additional collaboration with the FSS Internet Sales Manager on opportunities for the FOX O&Os is necessary for execution of national campaigns at the local level. The employee coordinates with the Web Producers / FOX Web Traffic on technical aspects of ad placement on the stations web site and mobile applications. This includes special content requests as needed for sponsorship sales and new business development. The employee will build multi-platform packages and coordinate their implementation and execution and other related duties as assigned. The employee will continually monitor the marketplace for competitive intelligence, and will follow the fluid and evolving developments of the digital industry as they pertain to the station and its viewers. This position requires in depth knowledge and understanding of the digital advertising industry as a whole, especially as pertaining to sales and revenue generation. Ability to integrate advertising and promotional concepts across multiple platforms (broadcast, digital, social) cohesively to achieve maximum results for advertisers and maximum revenue for the station. Interaction with people at all levels of understanding of the digital learning curve (station staff as well as advertisers) requires the ability to communicate comfortably from basic to complex levels. Develop and solidify relationships with advertisers to develop regular, repeat business. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Sound attention to detail is critical. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite. Minimum Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent sales/management experience. Sales management experience with a media background, preferably digital with a major media company/television station. Must have or be willing to obtain a drivers license. Production Technician This full time position is responsible for coordinating all activities in the Studios and production areas of the station. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, cueing and prompting the on-air talent during all newscasts and studio productions. Oversee the staging, lighting and general appearance of the studios and all other duties as assigned. During live or recorded programming, the Production Technician will take direction from the Show Director. Candidate will also operate the teleprompt system and set and/or change lighting and lighting cues as required for the shows. Audio engineering experience is a plus. Four year college degree preferred. Position requires the handling of multiple demands with professionalism and results. The ability to work under pressure and work in a cohesive team environment is a must. Must have or be willing to obtain a drivers license. This person must have clear verbal skills and a patient, positive demeanor. Must be willing to work nights and weekends and be able to lift 25 to 50lbs. News Producer Produce fast-paced, informative newscasts that stand out in a very competitive market. Obtain information essential to news broadcasts to research and generate news story ideas, cultivate contacts, sources, and relationships. Work with managers and staff in news gathering. Dispatch and monitor crews, monitor for breaking news, and other duties as assigned. Two years experience producing newscasts is required. Must have computer skills and the ability to operate scanners and two way radios. Good communication skills a must. College degree in communications or related field is preferred. Maintenance Engineer Install and maintain television broadcast equipment. Troubleshoot to component level. Operate automated Master Control system on occasion. Support broadcast operations. Maintain physical plant. On call duty required in rotation with other Engineers for studio equipment and exclusively for transmitter equipment. Serve as Alternate Chief Operator for FCC compliance purposes and other duties as assigned. Requires solid foundation in electronic, with particular skill in troubleshooting circuits. Requires knowledge of high-power RF transmitting systems and experience maintaining transmitters. Should be familiar with FCC rules and ATSC specifications.
