EN - FEMM Committee - Julie Ward (S&D, UK) introduces herself: Im a new MEP, Im a woman, I represent the UK, and I am really proud to be representing my constituency and women in the UK, who would be in a worst position if the EU hadnt made the legislation its made and made incredible strides towards giving us employment rights. And we know, in my constituency, in the North-West of England, and also from the years Ive spent working in a poor deprived part of the North of England, in County Durham, that actually our lives would be worse off if we hadnt been a member of the EU. And I want to speak from the point of view of being a woman in business ; Ive been running a successful business for the past 30 years, and the business I run has supported women in employment, huge numbers of women returning to work, being trained, feeling confident, and doing work thats around mental health and well-being. And I can say from experience that actually the EU supports and helps these businesses in forgotten areas, away from the centre, away from London, and has made a massive and significant inroad into equality for women, and weve got a lot of more work to do, so I am really proud to be here for the next 5 years, and hopefully beyond. Thank you. © Frédérick Moulin 2014 - EU2014 - All rights reserved.
