ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT AND EXEMPTIONS FOR 457 VISA From 1 July 2013, 457 visa applicant is required to demonstrate ‘Vocational English WHAT IS VOCATIONAL ENGLISH A Band Score of 5 in all the four components. ( Academic or General) or a score of at least “B” in each of the four components of OET. VALIDITY OF ENGLISH TEST The IELTS IS VALID FOR 3 YEARS immediately before the day on which the application IS BEING LODGED. EXEMPTIONS 1.Your country of passport If you hold a passport from Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States then you are exempted from english requirement. 2.Your School Study If You have completed at least 5 consecutive years of full-time study in a secondary and/or higher education institution where the instructing language is English then you are exempted from English requirement but you need to provide the evidence from your school. 3.Salary if your base annual salary is at least AUD $96,400. Please note that base salary excludes bonuses, incentive based pay, overtime pay etc. Skills where registration, licence or membership is required The Australian regulatory body for your profession/occupation may specify that you need to demonstrate a certain level of English language ability to obtain the registration, licence or membership that is required for you to work in your profession/occupation in Australia. If the required level of English language ability is equivalent to more than at least a score 5.0 in each of the 4 test components for an IELTS examination, then you need to meet the higher level of English language ability that is set by the regulatory body. If a lower or no level of English language requirement is set by the regulatory body and none of the above exemptions apply then you still need to satisfy the English language requirement.
