ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE SUPPLICATIONS READ IN SALAAH:- TA’AWWUZ:- A’UZU BILLAAHI MINASH SHAYTAA-NIR-RAJEEM [I seek refuge in God from Satan, the rejected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TASMIYAH:- BISMILLAAHIR-RAHMAANIR-RAHEEM (I begin in the name of God who is Most Merciful, the Mercy-giving. ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AZAAN (CALL FOR PRAYER):- ALLAHU AKBAR (4 TIMES) (.Allah is the Greatest,) ASH-HADU ALLAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH (2 TIMES) (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADUR RASUULULLAH (2 TIMES) ( I bear witness that Muhammad(s) is the Messenger of Allah) HAYYAA ‘ALASSALAAH (2 TIMES) ( Come to the Prayer) HAYYAA ‘ALAL FALAAH (2 TIMES) (Come to success .) ALLAHU AKBAR (2 TIMES) (Allah is the Greatest) LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH (1 TIME) (There is no god but Allah ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sana (Supplication of starting):- SUB-HAANAKA ALLAAHUMMA (Glory be to Thee, O God, ) WA BIHAMDIKA (and all the praise that is Thine ) WA TABAARAKASMUKA (And Blessed is Thy Name) WA TA’AALA JADDUKA (and exalted is Thy majesty) WA LAA ILAAHA GHAIRUK (And There is no god but Thee ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SURAH AL- FAATIHA (1st Surah):- (What translation means) ALLAH TA’ALA says, “ALHAMDULILLAAHI RAB-BIL AALAMEEN ( Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.) AR RAHMAA NIR-RAHEEM (The Most-merciful, the Mercy-giving ) MAALIKI YAWMID-DEEN (Master of Day of Judgment) IYYAAKA NABUDU (Thee alone do we worship) WA IYYAAKA NASTAEEN ( and from Thee alone we seek help) IHDINAS SIRAATAL MUSTAQEEM (Direct us on the straight path. ) SIRAATALLAZEENA ANAMTA ALAYHIM (The path of those whom Thou hast favoured.) GHAI-RIL MAGHZUBI ALAYHIM WALAZZAALLEEN.” (On whom Thy indignation (anger) has not befallen, and who have not gone astray ) [AAMEEN (may it be)] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SURAH AL-IQLAAS (112th surah):- [ALLAH asks us to say this and hence HE begins with Qul (say....)…] (What translation means) ALLAH TA’ALA says, QUL HUWALLAAHU AHAD. (Say: He is Allah the One and Only ) ALLAAHUS-SAMAD. [ALLAH, The Independent] {i.e., ALLAH is free of all needs (He neither eats nor drinks.. He is the Self-Sufficient Master, needing none… ] LAM YALID WALAM YUULAD. (He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;) WALAM YAKUL-LAHU KUFUWAN AHAD (And there is none like unto Him.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SURAH AN-NAAS (114th surah):- [ALLAH asks us to say this and hence HE begins with Qul ( Say )…] (What translation means) ALLAH TA’ALA says, QUL AUZU BI-RABBINNAAS (Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind) MALIKIN NAAS (The King of mankind) ILAAHIN NAAS (The God of mankind) MIN SHARRIL WAS WAASIL QAN-NAASILLAZI (From the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil), who withdraws (after his whisper) and the same ) YU-WAS-WISU FEE SUDOORIN NAAS ( who whispers into the hearts of Mankind) MINAL JINNATI WANNAAS (Among Jinns and among Men.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SURAH AL-ASR (103rd surah):- (What translation means) ALLAH TA’ALA says, 1. WAL’ASRI (By (the Token of) time (through the Ages) (I swear)) 2. INNAL-INSAANA LAFEE QUSRIN (Verily Man is in loss ) 3 ILLALLAZEENA AAMANOO WA ‘AMILUSSAALIHAATI WA TAWAASAW BILHAQQI WA TAWAASAW BISSABR (Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recite Alla-hu Akbar before going into Ruku. While in Ruku, recite the following supplication at least 3 times. You can also recite it in increments of 2 to prolong your ruku which is recommended i.e. 5, 7, 9, 11 times ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUPPLICATION IN RUKU (BOWING):- Transliteration: SUB-HAANA RABBI-YAL AZEEM. Translation: Exalted is my Lord, the Magnificent(superb) { --- SUB- HAANALLAAH means Exalted is Allah. further meaning-- ALLAH is free from all imperfections} (To say SUB-HAANALLAH is to declare that ALLAH is free from all imperfections) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ QIYAAM (STANDING AFTER RUKU):- 1. Transliteration: SAMI’ ALLAAHU LIMAN HAMIDAH Translation: . Allah listens to the one who praises Him. 2. Transliteration:-RAB-BANAA LAKAL HAMD. Translation: - Our God! All praise is for Thee only. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIRST SAJDAH (PROSTRATION):- Before going to the Sajdah, recite Alla-hu Akbar. While in Sajdah, recite the following supplication 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 or more times like in ruku. Transliteration: SUB-HAANA RABBI YAL ALA Translation: Exalted is my Lord, the Most High. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JALSAH (SITTING BETWEEN TWO SAJDAH):- To rise and sit from the first Sajdah, recite Alla-hu Akbar. It is mandatory to sit for a short period during which it is recommended to recite the following: Transliteration: ALLAAHUMMAGHFIRLEE WAR-HAM NEE Translation: O my ALLAH ! forgive me and have mercy on me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SECOND SAJDAH:- Recite Alla-hu Akbar before going to the second Sajdah from Jalsah. Recite the same supplication as the first Sajdah. 1. Before starting the second Raka, say Alla-hu Akbar while standing up. Now, you have completed one Raka. 2. Then recite Tasmiah and Surah Fatiha. After Fatiha, recite tasmiah and another surah and proceed to Ruku by saying Alla-hu Akbar. Carry on the acts till the second Sajdah. 3. After the second Sajdah, say Alla-hu Akbar, But sit down and recite the TASHAHHUD. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ TASHAHHUD (ATTESTATION):- It was on Shab-e-Meraj when Prophet Muhammad (s) said--- Transliteration: “AT-TAHIYYAATU LILLAAHI WASSALAWAATU WAT-TAYYIBAATU” (To God belongs all greetings of praise, all prayers, all good deeds.) Then ALLAH TA’ALA said,”AS-SALAAMU ALAYKA AYYUHAN-NABIYYU WA RAHMATULLAAHI WA BARA-KAATUHU” [Peace be on you, O Prophet, and mercy of God and His blessing (be on you)] Then Prophet Muhammad (s) said,” AS-SALAAMU ALAYNA WA ALAA IBAADILLAAHISSAALIHEEN” (Peace be on us and on all true servants of God.) After reciting the above Lines, we should give shahadah i.e., we should bear witness saying: “ASH HADU A(N)LLAA ILAAHA IL-LALLAAHU ( I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) WA ASH HADU AN-NA MUHAMMADAN AB-DUHU WA RASULUHU. (and I bear witness that Muhammad(s) is His servant and His Messenger ) {While giving this testimony you raise your right index finger : this symbolize the renewal of your pledge and commitment to the life of witness that you are required to live. While uttering it you must give special attention and emphasis to it.} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are offering 3 Raka of salah (as in Maghrib), then after Tashahhud in second Raka, you say Allaahu Akbar and stand up. Then you recite Tasmiah, Fatiha and other supplications. Carry on till second Sajdah in the normal manner and sit for second Tashahud in the third Raka. After that, you are to recite durud-e-ibraheem and then read a dua and finish the prayer. If you are offering 4 Raka of salah, then dont sit for Tashahud in the third Raka. Simply stand up after second Sajdah in the third Raka by saying Alla-hu Akbar. Carry on till second sajdah and sit for Tashahud in the fourth Raka. After reciting Tashahud, recite the following supplications to finish the prayer: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DURUD - E - IBRAAHEEM:- ALLAAHUMMA SAL-LI ALAA MUHAMMADI(N)WWA ( O God! Have mercy on Muhammad (s) and) ALAA AALI MUHAMMADIN, (on Muhammad’s (s) followers ) KAMAA SAL-LAYTA ALAA IBRAAHEEMA (as Thou had mercy on Ibrahim (a.s.) ) WAALAA AALI IBRAAHEEMA ( and on Ibraheem’s (a.s.) followers) INNAKA HAMEEDUMMAJEED (You are indeed worthy of Praise, full of Glory) ALLAAHUMMA BAARIK ALAA MUHAMMADI(N)WWA (O God! Shower your Blessing upon Muhammad (s) and) ALAA AALI MUHAMMADIN, ( on Muhammad’s (s) followers) KAMAA BAARAKTA ALAA IBRAAHEEMA ( as Thou blessed Ibrahim a.s.) WA ALAA AALI IBRAAHEEMA ( and Ibrahim’s (a.s.) followers ) INNAKA HAMEEDUM MAJEED. (You are indeed worthy of Praise, full of Glory ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then recite a dua to finish your rakaas, for example: DUA:- (Surah 2 Al baqara 201st ayat) RABBANAA AATINAA FID-DUNYA HASANATAN WA FIL AAQIRATI HASANATAN WAQINA AZAABAN-NAAR. Translation:- (Our Lord ! Give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and save us from the torment of the fire!) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, its time to finish the prayer by saying Salaam. Turn towards your right and say it once then turn towards your left and say it once again. SALAAM:- Transliteration: As-salaamu alaikum wa rah-matullaah Translation: Peace be on all and the mercy of Allah (be upon all) (i.e., we pray for peace to be upon all the people in this world and for peace to be upon all the people in the hereafter)} ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SALAATUL WITR:- The Isha (Night) prayer also includes Witr prayer which is composed of three rakaas. In the third raka after reading the Sura after Al-Fatihah raise ur hands as u do when beginning the salaah and say ‘ALLAHU AKBAR’ and fold ur hands and recite ta’wwuz and tasmiyah and then the following dua should be read: DUA-E-QUNUT:- Transliteration: ALLAAHUMMA (O ALLAH! ) INNAA NASTA’EENUKA (We seek help from Thee ) WA NASTAGHFIRUKA [ we seek Thine forgiveness ] WA NUMINU BIKA ( we have faith in Thee ) WA NATAWAKKALU ALAYKA (we put our trust in Thee; ) WA NUSNI ‘ALAYK-AL QAYR ( we praise you in the best manner ) WA NASHKURUKA (we thank Thee ) WA LAA NAKFURUKA ( and we are not ungrateful to you ) WA NAQLAUU WA NATRUKU MAI(N)YYAFJURUKA. (we abandon and leave everyone who disobeys Thee. ) ALLAAHUMMA (O ALLAH ! ) IYYAAKA NABUDU (Thee only do we worship ) WA LAKA NUSAL-LEE (For Thee alone we perform the Prayer ) WA NASJUDU (and before Thee alone prostrate ourselves ) WA ILAYKA NASAA WA NAHFIDU ( To You we hasten to worship and to serve ) WA NARJU RAHMATAKA ( We hope to receive Thy mercy) WA NAQSHAA AZAABAKA (and fear Thy punishment. ) INNA ‘AZAABAKA BIL KUF-FAARI MULHIQ.
