Simon (Peter) Originally called Simon, Jesus renamed this apostle Cephas, which means rock in Syriac, and translates into Peter in Greek. He preached primarily to Jews, and, as you can read in Acts chapter 2, preached to the people of Jerusalem on the Pentecost. Simon Peter was also a healer. Imprisoned repeatedly in Jerusalem for his faith, Simon Peter met his death in Rome, Italy, where he was tortured for nine months before being killed (many believe he was hung upside down on the cross).
