EPCAMR Staff spent most of the day working with John Levitsky, - TopicsExpress

EPCAMR Staff spent most of the day working with John Levitsky, Watershed Specialist from the Luzerne Conservation District, looking over historic underground mine maps, cross section maps, photos from our previous Coldwater Conservation Plan for the Solomon Creek, and having discussions on how we might be able to assist the City of Wilkes-Barre with identifying some potential solutions to the flooding problems and failing WPA walls along the Brookside and Goose Island sections of the City. EPCAMR also is continuing to work on the 3D mapping of the underground mines, mine water pool volumes and flow paths, and hydrogeologic connections and geologic structural connections to the streams within the Solomon Creek watershed as well. EPCAMR showed John our years of work that went into mapping the underground mines from the available Federal Office of Surface Mining Folio Maps, the results of our water quality monitoring, flow monitoring, and borehole elevation monitoring, and any other public or private map collections that we have available to use to make the best decisions possible in our efforts to restore streams, minimize AMD, reduce or eliminate flooding problems, make people aware of the potential for mine subsidence, restore riparian corridors, and improve the fisheries within the Solomon Creek Watershed.
