EX-CHELSEA STAR SALOMON KALOU REVEALS HE TURNED DOWN ARSENAL IN JANUARY Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has revealed he rejected the chance to join Arsenal during January. The Lille man was repeatedly linked with the Gunners ahead of the last transfer window and he has now confirmed that an approach was made. But the Ivory Coast international turned down an offer to join Arsene Wenger’s side on loan in order to focus on securing Champions League qualification with his current club. He told L’Equipe: “A possible departure? Yes, to Arsenal. “It could have been done as a last-minute loan. “But I wanted to finish third, prepare for the World Cup and go to the Stade de France to compete in the final of the Coupe de France.” Kalou has become a key player for Lille since joining them on a free transfer from the Blues in 2012. The 28-year-old was rumoured to be one of Arsenal’s preferred options as they sought stop-gap options up front, and it now appears that there was truth in those rumours.
