APPRENTICE – INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN Water and Waste ART DEPARTMENTPosting #: 110308 In partnership with City of Winnipeg’s Aboriginal Youth Strategy, Water and Waste Department is seeking (1) Aboriginal Youth under the age of 30 to participate in an Industrial Electrician Apprentice over a three year period. The selected Apprentice will have the opportunity to work with a Journeyman Electrician, providing assistance performing a wide variety of tasks associated with the Electrical trade. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the Journeyman in the maintenance, repair, testing and construction of various types of electrical systems and equipment in accordance with standard trade practices and methods. Assists Journeyman with material, tools and supplies. Moves tools and equipment to and from job sites. Maintains and cleans work areas, various tools and equipment. Develop a working knowledge of the technical and administrative procedures necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman Industrial Electrician on completion of the Apprenticeship. QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess Grade 12 education or equivalent and meet the qualifications to enter the Industrial Electrician Apprentice program with a minimum Level 1 credit. Successful applicants are required to complete the Industrial Electrical Apprentice Program. Twelve months of working experience in the electrical industry would be considered an asset. Must have proven working knowledge to operate hand tools and equipment with understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work. Must have demonstrated acceptable attendance and job performance relevant to this position. Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence. NOTES: A Criminal Records Check satisfactory to the Employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense. Salary range is $1,457.75 - $2,429.59 biweekly. Hours of work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
