EXEMPTED MICRO ENTERPRISE BBBEE CERTIFICATE What is an Exempted Micro Enterpise(EME)? If your turnover is below R5 million per year you qualify as an Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME). EMEs are exempt from the provisions of BBBEE. This means that you are automatically already BBBEE Compliant and do not need to take any BBBEE measures at all or adjust your business in any way. In order to access BBBEE benefits and opportunities, all that is required of you is to obtain a valid EME BBBEE Certificate. As an EME you will automatically receive the following BBBEE Status Level: • If your business is more than 50% black owned you will receive a Level 3 BBBEE Status level and 110% Preferential Procurement Level • If your business is less than 50% black owned you will receive a Level 4 BBBEE Status level and 100% Preferential Procurement Level Note: The following entity types have adjusted EME thresholds: • Entities measured under the Tourism Sector Charter with a turnover of below R2.5 million per annum. • Estate Agents/Brokers measured under the Property Sector Charter with a turnover of below R2.5 million per annum. • Built Environment Professional under the Construction Sector Charter with a turnover of below R1.5 million per annum. Start-up enterprises are measurable as EME’s for the first 12 months following their formation or incorporation, regardless of the expected total revenue of the start-up. Having a BEE Certificate will create various benefits and advantages for your business: • Your clients will earn Preferential Procurement points on their BEE Scorecards • You get exposure to a range of new potential customers that are looking to use BEE certified suppliers • You will have access to public sector tenders (with the alignment of the PPPFA and the BEE Codes of Good Practice) You comply with the Preferential Procurement
