EXILE ONE STORY. Part III This is the first ever Exile One album in Creole and the first ever Cadence-Lypso recording in history. Before that, Exile One had recorded a single in Creole but the lead singing was done by Hippomene because the producer Debs did not want Gordon to sing in Creole because he had already started an international career as some kind of soul singer... Cadence -Lypso was created under very strange circumstances. The band was performing in Paris to an Antillean audience who came to dance, but the repertoire was all English and the people applauded but did not dance. We decided right there and then to Creolize the music by giving the songs a combination of calypso and whatever Cadence-Rampa flavour that we had adopted from our Haitian musician friends such as the Gypsies... The fusion was magical. The people danced and danced...Here again Henderson who was the only French speaker defined the music in French as, une synthèse... a synthesis... A producer who was at the event invited the group to do an album in Creole. We were not comfortable with that so we accepted only if we could also do one in English...He agreed. We had no songs, but here again it may seem like boasting but anyone who knows Gordon Henderson will attest his ability to write songs on the spot....These songs were all composed and sung on the spot. Listening today will reveal numerous errors due to the extemporanious nature of the work. One song, Ah Ta Ta was an adaptation of an old African traditional song that Gordon had sung many years before with his group Voltage Four a group 2hich existed when some of the musicians were about 8 years old. This album became a world wide hit and opened the door for a series of Dominican artistes who adopted the style and concept and gave Dominica a sense of being as the country prepared for independence.
