EXPO 67 DRIVING FORCE The Malagasy Republic national day at Expo 67, on June 29, coincided with the seventh anniversary of its independence. At Place des Nations, the president of Madagascar was represented by his Ambassador to Canada. He gave a beautiful speech on collaboration and brotherhood among nations. Three 14 years old Americans who had found 3 negotiable cheques of $20,000 in a Expo Express station, handed them to a security guard. The cheques were written on behalf of a food products company for the USSR Pavilion. The Discoverer, the largest and almost entirely automated American oceanographic research vessel, arrived at Expo. With its huge laboratory, the ship was almost a thematic Pavilion in itself. According to a survey, half of visitors who drove to Expo 67 came from outside of Canada. 49 percent of cars in the parking lot came from the United States and one percent from outside of North America. (Photos) Among the visitors on that day was Mark Robson, a widely known American filmmaker to whom we owe the film Peyton Place. Mr Robson who has explored Man and His World from one end to other, enthusiastically said: It’s a true prodigy and a real legend. A veritable festival of film”.
