Each year the Bergen County Police Chiefs Foundation works to support and assist our veterans. This year we will once again do our part to support those in need who served our country. Without these brave men and women we all would not enjoy the many freedoms that are offered to us each day. To this end the Bergen County Police Chiefs Foundation will be supporting the Alfred J. Thomas Veteran’s Home and Bergen County TRACER’s which houses and supports homeless veterans. Please review the attached list which includes the various ways we can do our part to support these veterans who live in Bergen County. If you are interested in participating in this program items must be dropped off at the Upper Saddle River Police Dept by Wednesday November 13th. For more information or additional donations after this date please contact the Bergen County Division of Veteran Affairs directly at 201-336-6325 Dear Supporters: RE: TRACERS FALL/WINTER & HOLIDAY DONATIONS Established in November 1993, “Tracers” has provided assistance to homeless veterans. Whether the veteran needs bus tickets for job interviews, transportation to social services agencies or to employment obtained, “Tracers” is there to assist. Over the past year the need for donations has been steadily increasing each month. At the same time the donations normally made to the Bergen County “Tracers” program has been declining each month. We currently are seeing twice as many homeless and unemployed veterans in need of items necessary to survive day to day and in the upcoming harsh weather. Some veterans are enrolled in educational programs that will give them the skills to once again be employed and self-sufficient. But they need our help as they transition. As the holidays are approaching, our homeless veterans will need essential winter clothing and other cold weather items. Here are the items most asked for: • backpacks (supply depleted-slightly used acceptable) • heavy coats and jackets (Large, X Large, XX Large) • thermal gloves and hats • sweatshirts/fleece zip style/hoodies (Large, X Large, XX Large ) • sweat pants (sized Large, X Large, XX Large) • thermal undershirts and underwear (sized X Large, XX Large) • underwear and under shirts (Large, X Large, XXL and all types) • toiletry items: such as bottled combo hair/body wash, deodorant triple track disposable razors, shaving gel, hand and body moisturizers, disposable hand and face towels, hand and body towels $25 or $50 gift certificates, redeemable at stores in Hackensack such as Sears, Shop Rite, and Target are also welcome. Gift cards allow the veteran to purchase shoes and boots in their exact size, as well as male or female personal items required. $10.00 McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts or Burger King gift cards, which are available for purchase at the counter, are greatly appreciated by our homeless job seekers. Every dollar of your donation goes to support the lives of our homeless veterans in Bergen County. If you or your organization would like to make a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to “County of Bergen - Tracers” and sent to “Tracers”, One Bergen County Plaza, 2nd Floor, Hackensack, NJ 07601-7076. Questions call the Division of Veterans Services at (201) 336-6325, weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
