Each year, the end of the summer is filled with hellos and goodbyes/beginnings and endings. Tomorrow, I begin a new school year with new positions and teaching preps and a new cohort of collegues to get to know and grow with. But also, I say goodbye to a few (or, See you at NCA) that makes the beginning of school/End of Summer a bit harder. Tomorrow, my Friend/colleague Nichole Nicholson ventures off to Washington state. As a colleague, she has been my ally- sharing my passion and love of Performance Studies and also standing with me with the same hope and dreams for the discipline, my buddy when I needed to make sense of new knowledge, and my support when I did work on stage and off. For this I say, YAY! Ill miss you but Ill see you at Petit JEan/NCA/Patti Pace/SSCA because those relationships are never goodbye, just I wont see you as often But as a friend, she moves mountains- she is fiercely loyal and dedicated to the people she loves, she goes the distance to support and care, she is patient like no other and generous to all, and was(and is) always in my corner when I needed her most. Words fall short to accurately express the ways she has saved, supported, and cared for me as a friend. For that I say, I love you, I am thankful for you and all you do For most in academia, we hope and aspire to find at least one (Friend or colleague) in people we encounter in our careers. This is an occupation littered with acquaintances and friendly folks we have intense experiences with. I was lucky to find both in Nichole. I love you Nichole, thank you and I wish you well on your magical journey.
