Earlier today, I posted my sad reflection on the shooting in Ottawa today of a Canadian soldier, and the killing of another Canadian soldier in Quebec yesterday. In both cases, the killers, who themselves were killed by police or security forces, have been identified, one as an Islamist extremist, the other as a man with previous run-ins with the law, who also has Islamist sympathies. I removed the post when friends of mine started insulting each other, and me, over opinions expressed. And some made outright hateful and racist comments about Muslims and people from the Middle East, which I cannot, and will not tolerate on my wall. My main point was my sadness that our country seems to have been spoiled and broken by these events, and two men in uniform, and two misguided men, have lost their lives so unneccessarily. I hope that reasonable thinking can prevail, and we dont go off on some jingoistic hate-vendetta and lose any of our rights and democratic privileges as a result. I dont like deleting posts, but there is no place on my wall for ethnic hatred. Please be respectful of each others opinions. Disagree, make your points, but dont insult each other. Thank you.
