Early this morning I noticed a news segment that was quite apparently designed to manipulate public opinion regarding “the big bad Putin.” The ruble (which is doing much better than the US dollar) was said to be in horrible shape. The exceptionally vague implication was that Putin was somehow responsible for the ruble’s devaluation. I noticed another disturbing psychological manipulation: The con artist in front of the camera said that Russians were “dumping rubles before the holidays.” This deceitful statement was followed by a video segment of shoppers buying stuff. This bit of dishonestly was undoubtedly an attention misdirector designed to prompt the idea that buying crap (um merchandise) was the commoner’s source of defense against currency devaluation (which should only seem logical to a school child—but liars don’t want you to think anything through). I leave you with these words: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8).
