Editorial Hazara Motorway: great initiative Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the sixty Kilometers long Hazara Motorway yesterday which is part of the Pakistan China Economic Corridor Agreement. This project will be a four lane fenced Motorway at the cost thirty Billion Rupees, which is funded by Asian Development Bank whereas this project is expected to be completed in three years. This Motorway will have three sections from Hasanabdal to Jarikas, from Jarikas to Serai Saleh and from Serai Saleh to Hawalian, whereas it will have twenty six bridges, fifteen underpasses and two railway bridges. Hazara Motorway project is expected to deliver great results not only for the people of the Hazara belt but will also prove very fruitful for the entire country. At times of extreme depression in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where everyday all that is heard is killings and kidnappings, this project has certainly brought smiles on the faces of this neglected province. Besides shortening the commuting time to Hazara region, this Motorway is aimed at strengthening the trade relations with China. China will certainly be using this Motorway someday to transport it goods to the warm oceans of Pakistan and these goods will then be further transported to the rest of the world. China has certainly chosen the closest and cheapest inland route to warm waters and why not; every country has the right to make its citizens financial sound and stable. Now it is up to us here in Pakistan how we utilize this opportunity. Government must ensure that this project is completed on time and there is no corruption done in the construction of this project. Maximum jobs should also be provided to the local population during the construction whereas utmost dedication and honesty should be exhibited by the National Highway Authority. Hazara Motorway is the first step of Pakistan China Economic Corridor Agreement and so we must prove to our Chinese partners that we are not just using them for our geographic advantages but we seek long lasting economic relations. Pakistan China Economic Corridor is aimed at connecting Gwadar Port of Pakistan to Chinas northwestern autonomous region of Xinjiang. This corridor will reduce the distance of twelve thousand kilometers which at present China is using for its transportation needs. At present China is our best bet to help us out of the economic crutches we are stuck in. China has proved itself globally to be an economic giant and we can certainly benefit from this opportunity. All we need is honesty and dedication. Present rulers should take Hazara Motorway as a challenge that there will not a single Rupee of corruption done in this project. This project should also not used as a point scoring game with the Pakistan Tehrike Insaf. It is hoped that both the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the federal government jointly facilitate this great project of Hazara Motorway.
