Education Comes Under Spotlight Again A prominent Liberian- Lebanese businessman, Mazen K. Halabi said Liberia’s education sector needs the collective efforts of all Liberians and other partners to enable students acquire quality and affordable education. Speaking when he was honored by the Corporate Investigative Journalist Network on Wednesday, January 21, 2014, he said education plays a pivotal role in actualizing the rebuilding and peace agenda of Liberia. According to him, mounting criticism on the country’s education needs practical action to put it on par with other countries education system. He noted the need for students to prioritize reading and writing along with proper monitoring and supervision of all learning institutions in Liberia. Speaking further, he lauded the media group for the honor bestowed on him, and promised to work tirelessly in contributing meaningfully to the Liberian economy through job creation and regularly paying taxes. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or General Manager of Monroe Chicken also frowned on the abrupt closure of the University of Liberia (UL). He wants all the parties involved to dialogue to ensure that the university is urgently reopen. Mr. Halabi argued that the closure of the state run university is not profitable to the students, Faculty Senate or the administration due to the ongoing reform in the educational system.
