Eid-El-Kabir: Mimiko sues for peace, unity THE Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to reflect on the challenges facing the nation and seek the face of God for solution. In his goodwill message issued in Akure, Mimiko urged Nigerians, especially Muslims, to pray for peace and unity of the country. He expressed his optimism in the future of the country as a unified and prosperous nation and pledged to take steps that would further strengthen the unity of the country. He noted that sustaining the unity of the nation was a collective responsibility and should not be left in the hands of a particular group. Mimiko said Nigeria would remain indivisible in spite of the myriad of challenges, urging Nigerians, especially Muslims, to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir to pray for peace, unity and progress of the country. He further charged Nigerians to submit to the will of God in the belief that only Him could help solve the nation’s problems. Pray for credible leaders in 2015, Chief Imam tells Nigerians AS the 2015 general election draws near, Nigerians have been enjoined to keep praying for the emergence of credible leaders to steer the ship of the country. This formed part of the sermon by the Chief Imam of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Ahmed Baban-Inna, at the Bauchi Central Eid-el Ground shortly after the two raka’at prayers to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir. He declared that it was only prayer that would ward off the multifarious calamities befalling Nigeria. While saying that the electorate should vote wisely during elections, the chief imam called on leaders and the led to fear Allah in everything they do. Alhaji Baban-Inna called for unity among Nigerians, irrespective of religious and ethnic difference, saying that unity always foster development. “We prays that whoever emerge a leader at whichever level of governance is the choice of the Almighty God, but not borne out of personal or self-aggrandizement. Don’t allow us vote for unscrupulous, ingrate, unreligious, callous, or who will lead people astray,” he prayed. The Bauchi State deputy governor, Alhaji Sagir Aminu Saleh, led top government officials and traditional rulers to the Eid ground, where thousands of faithful turned out, chanting praises of Allah. Meanwhile, the state governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, who flew into Bauchi Saturday morning, observed the Eid-el Kabir prayers at his Yuguda village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state. UI VC felicitates with Muslims THE Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole, has congratulated the Muslims in the university and across the entire country on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir. In a message issued by the university’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, the VC urged Muslims to imbibe the lessons of obedience to the will of God, humility, perseverance, good neighbourliness, charity and love as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Prophet Ismail. While wishing them a blissful celebration, Professor Adewole said: “we should use this celebration as an opportunity to strengthen our bond of unity to live in peace and harmony as one people to move our country forward.”
